Summer, 2003





The Bedford County Art Center is hosting a display of paintings by Yongsook Kim-Lambert, of Tyrone, PA, during the month of May.


George Clark, of Washington Boro, PA, received third place award in the PWS Member's Show at the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center in Wellsboro, PA this year. He also had mixed media piece accepted by the Montgomery County, Maryland Guild of Professional Artists.


Artist Elaine Weiner-Reed, of Severn, MD, had a painting accepted into the Alabama WCS 62nd National Exhibition.


Beall Rodgers, PWS, of Tenafly, NJ, had a painting accepted into the 136th Annual International Exhibition and was awarded the Clara Stroud Memorial Prize at the AWS banquet in May. Beall also participated in a Group of Four Exhibition at the Piermont Fine Arts Gallery and a one man show at the Pelham Manor Club.


Massachusetts artist John Krenik, of Hyannis, had two paintings accepted into the New Mexico WCS 2003 Member's Juried Show at the Hispanic Arts Building in Albuquerque, NM. One of the paintings won the Winspread Collector Guide Award. John also had a one person show at Cummaquid Fine Arts Gallery in Cummaquid, MA and an acceptance in the Copley Society of Art's 2003 Spring Member's Juried Exhibit.


Anna Marie Legler, PWS, of Pittsburgh, PA, had three paintings accepted into the 29th Annual Hoyt Regional Art Exhibition "Art of the Pittsburgh Countryside."


PWS Charter Member Joann Hensel, PWS-sgg, of Millersville, PA, received 2nd prize for her watercolor at the 75th Annual Jurried Exhibition at the Art Association of Harrisburg. Joann also received an Honorable Mention at the "Woman's Expressions" National Invitational Show at the Women's and Baby's Hospital of Lancaster, PA. She will be showing new works in the "From the Beach to Bay Show" at the Central ARt Gallery during July as well as having her paintings included in the Echo Valley Annual Exhibition at Franklin and Marshall College.


Mel Sabin, PWS-sgg, of Park Ridge, NJ, received the John Parachini Memorial Award I at the Community Arts Association National Exhibition, the American Artists Professional League Award at the Hudson Valley Art Association National Exhibition, and the Winsor & Newton Award at the New Jersey WCS Member's show. He has also had paintings accepted in the Baltimore WCS, Hilton Head Art League, Louisiana WCS, and Midwest WCS. Mel was elected a signature member of the Midwest WCS. Mel will participate in a two artist show with Yoko Wakabayashi at the Sylvia Ruth Weinberg Gallery in Woodstock, NY from July 24th (Reception on 26 July, 4 to 7 PM) until September 1, 2003.


Evelyn Ecale Schultz, PWS, of Elmhurst, IL, was awarded third place in the Fra Angelica Sacred Art Show, Gallery 37, Chicago and her painting was purchased by the foundation for their permanent collection. At the 7th Annual Art in the Park Elmhurst Museum, she received First Place in Painting. She was awarded the Knudson Memorial Award in the EAG Member's Exhibit at the art museum and the AWard of Excellence from the Oklahoma Art Guild 2003 Show. Evelyn was invited to paint a "Cool Kiddie Car" for the York Theater of Elmhurst, in response to "Chicago's Cars on Parade." Her paintings were accepted in Bloomingdale Art Museum's "Not Just Another Pretty Face Portrait Show"; the Midwest Watercolor Exhibit 2003; the Garlands of Barrington SAN Exhibition; Women's Works, Woodstock, IL; the Challenge of Champions, Houston, TX, and the Chicago Art Open (2years). She received the Best of Show at the Dupage Art League Gallery and her painting was purchased from the Art Partners Exhibit in Glen Ellyn, IL. She will continue on the Board of Directors for several organizations in Elmhurst and Chicago.


Artist Mary Whyte, PWS, of Johns Island, SC, will be having an exhibit at the Greenville County Museum, Greenville, SC through the end of August. This will coincide with the release of her new book, Alfredas World a full color edition of Mary's paintings of the people of Johns Island. Her paintings were featured in the May issue of Artist's Magazine and she will be teaching a watercolor workshop in Traverse City, MI, July 28h thru August1, 2003.


Bradley Hendershot, of East Greenville, PA will have a solo exhibition entitled "Bradley Hendershot's Bucks County" from October 4th through 25th, 2003. The opening reception will be on October 4th at the Travis Gallery (215-794-3903 or at www.travisgallery.com. Bradley also won Best of Show at the 21st open Juried Exhibition at the Trenton City Museum, Trenton, NJ.


Exhibiting artist, Julia Swartz, of Leola, PA, has exhibited at several locations in the past and will be exhibiting at the Lititz Art Show, July 26, 2003; Ocean City, NJ August 1-3. 2003; Shadyside Art Festival, Walnut Street, Pittsburgh, PA August 8-10, 2003; and at the Mount Gretna Art Festival, August 16-17, 2003.


Lorraine Ptacek, PWS, of Elmhurst, IL, was juried into the Alabama WCS's 62nd National Exhibition; the Georgia WCS's 2003 National Exhibition; and into the "Not Just another Pretty Face" exhibit of the Bloomingdale Art Museum, Bloomingdale, IL


Artist Virginia Blackstock, PWS, of Hotchkiss, CO, had a painting accepted in the 79th Annual Spring Salon at the Springville Museum of Art in Utah. Virginia also has a painting at the Colorado Springs Art Center, in International Watermedia XIII, presented by the Pikes Peak WCS until September, 2003. She has also held drawing classes for home-Schoolers and at the Hotchkiss Library to 5th and 6th graders.


Matilda Grech, PWS, of Port Jervis, NY, won the Carson Award at the 26th Annual Show at Kent, CN. Her paintings were also accepted in the Hudson Valley Art Association 72nd Annual Art Exhibition at the Newington-Cropsey Foundation Gallery at Hastings-on-Hudson and the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club 107th Annual Exhibition at the National Arts Club in NYC.
