Summer, 2004





Rita Argent Auerbach, PWS, of Kenmore, NY, was invited by the Burchfieled-Penny Gallery in Baffallo to co-curate "Wet and Fresh, A Survey of Current Watercolor in Western New York". She had a one artist exhibition "Floral Colours" at the Brian Art Galleries in Baffalo in May this year. Rita was also featured in American Artist Magazine, June 2004, Watercolor page which included her theory "7C's to a great painting." The exhibition "New York Collects Buffalo State" at the Burchfield-Penny Center selected two of Rita's paintings. She was also named a Distinguished Alumnae at the Buffalo State College graduation ceremony.


Frank Webb, PWS, of Pittsburgh, PA, received "Best of Show" award in the Pittsburgh WCS's Aqueous International Annual last October. Frank was selected as the sole juror for the North Carolina WCS Annual last April.


Jean Uhl Spicer, PWS-sgg, of Havertown, PA, received "Award of Distinction" in the Missouri WCS annual exhibit in April. Jean also received an Honorable Mention in the Baltimore WCS annual exhibit also in April. Jean has announced the release of her book, "Bright and BEautiful Flowers in Watercolor" by North Light Books. She will also serve as juror for the Long BEach Island open watercolor exhibition at Jane Law Gallery.


Jean Marie Perry, of Saylorsburg, PA "Along The Canal" exhibi of watercolors, acrylics, and prints which will open with a reception August 20, 2004 at the Antoine Dutot Museum in Deleware Water GAp, PA. The show features a concentration on the Deleware, Lehigh, Raritan and Morris Canals which linked the transport of goods during the 1800's. The show continues on weekends through September 5.


Marianne Marino, PWS, of Allison Park, PA, won a cash award at the Pittsburgh Society of Artists, Member's Show, held at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.


John Krenik, of Hyannis, MA, had paintings accepted into the Oklahoma WCS National Exhibition at the Kirkpatrick Galleries in Oklahoma City; New Mexico WCS Spring Exhibit at EXPO New Mexico; and the Copley Society of Art's 2004 show. John also had a woodcut print accepted in WGBH TV's Two Collection art auction and have a Whiteline Woodcut show at the Old Selectman's Building Gallery in West Barnstable, MA July 14-18 2004.


Mike Mazer, of Mattapoisett, MA, has won awards in the following exhibits: MSWS Grand National, Jackson, MS (BEst in Show); Merit Award North VAlley Art League; Honorable mention Winterfest 2004, Mountain Valley Arts Council; Rhode Island WCS (BEst in Show--Ruth Findley Memorial Award); Stoughton Art ASsociation (BEst of Show); and Plano Art Association Merit Award. Mike was accepted into the following exhibitions: American Society of Marine Artists 13th Annual at Vero Beach and at the New England Regional; 11th Annual Maritime Art Exhibit at Coos Art Museum; Western Colorado WCS 12th National; Hearland 8th Annual Artist Exhibition; Louisiana WCS 34th Annual; Hudson VAlley Art Association; Red River VAlley National; Georgia WCS 25th National; Conneticut Academy of Fine Arts; New England WCS 9th Biennial; and Art of New England, Lyme Art Association. Mike is now a Fellow in the American Artists Professional League in NY City and elected president of the New England WCS.


Hazel Camp, of Newport News, VA, has a show "Impressions" running through July 10th, 2004 at the 'Gallery On the York'. The gallery hours are from 10 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday and Noon to 4 PM on Sunday.


Sylvia Murdock, PWS, of Monhegan Island, ME, is exhibiting in a group show "The Art of Lobstering" at the Penobscot Marine Museum in Maine through October 11, 2004. She is also exhibiting with the New England WCS's North American Open Group Show in Bennington, VT which runs from July 31 through September 5, 2004.


Hazel Stone, of Phoenix, AZ recently had a painting accepted into the Northwestern WCS's 64th Annual Open Exhibition in Seattle WA and an acceptance into the 11th Annual Red River WCS's National Juried Art Exhibition in Fargo, ND.


Julia Swartz, of Leola, PA, has had several showings over the past three months in Lancaster, AP; Mt Airy, MD; Lahaska, PA; Richmond, VA; Rockville, MD; Buffalo, NY; and Grand Haven, MI. She will also be displaying at the Rochester, NY Canandalqua, PA and Littitz, PA


Doris Terris, PWS, of Glen Gardner, NJ won a "Best of Show" for acrylic painting at the Lamington Prespyterian Invitational Art Show during May. Doris also had two paintings accepted into the NJ Chapter of AAPL (American Artist Professional League) show at the Papermill Playhouse in Milburn, NJ. She was also displayed in the Garden State WCS, Pennsylvania WCS, and Hunterdon WCS Member's Shows and teaching watercolor, pastel, acrylic, and oil at the Senior Center of Hunterdon County, NJ.


Pat Kretchmer, of Elmira, NY has just opened a gallery in Elmira in Wegmans Plaza. She is sharing a double store with a vacuum cleaner dealer. If you are traveling in the neighborhood, look for vacuum and artwork and stop in to say "Hi" to Pat. Good luck on your venture, Pat!


Mel Stabin, PWS-sgg, of Park Ridge, NJ, was accepted into the 68th National Exhibition of the Butler Institute of American Art. Mel has also been chosen as Honorary Director of the American Watercolor Society.


Joan Hambleton, PWS, of Williamsville, NY, has been accepted into the California WCS 36th National Exhibition to be held at the Academy of Art College Gallery.


Janet Walsh, of Coopersburg, PA, is presenting a Watercolor Workshop in Southern France September 22-October 4, 2004. The workshop will be held at the Domaine du Haut Baran. Lorraine Ptacek, PWS, of Elmhurst, IL won awards at the Georgia WCS's XXV National Exhibition at the Addison Art Guild's Exhibition, Illinois. Lorraine also had a painting in the Transparent WCS of America's 28th Annual Exhibition. She was exhibited in the "SAN Show 2004" in the Community Art Partners Art Show, and in the 2004 DuPage Theatre Visual Performing Rats Coalition/National University of Health and Science Art Show.


"Alishar Remembered" is the title of a book recently published by Frederica 'Fritzi' Morrison, PWS, of Quincy, IL. The sub title is "Disappearing Ways of Life in the Turkish Anatolian Village. Included with her text, are maps and photos of the Turkish region taken by her late husband, Dr. John Morrison.


Clyde Roberts, PWS, of Hagerstown, MD, had two entries accepted into the Cumberland Valley Regional Exhibition held at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown. One of his entries won the top Betty Holladay watercolor award.


Jacqueline Mitchell Smith, of Wernersville, PA had two watercolor paintings accepted into the Third International Exhibition of Fine Art in Miniature of the World Federation of Miniaturists showing from June to July 12th at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC.


Beverly Golembeski, Seaside Park, NJ, had a solo exhibit "Phoenix Rising" during May and June. Beverly is also having another solo exhibit at the WaterMark Gallery in Tuckerton, NJ from June 25, to July 25, 2004. Beverly also received a 'Judges Choice Award' in the Ocean County Artist's Guild's State Show.


"The Watercolorist's A to Z of Trees and foliage' and "Painting Light and Shade" are two books displaying paintings by Jeanne Dobie, PWS of Berwin, PA. Both books are distributed by North Light. Jeanne has received the Else Pedersen Memorial Award at the Watercolor USA 2004 Annual Juried Exhibition and a Second Place Award in the Florida Keys WCS 2004 Annual Juried Exhibition in Marathon, FL.
