
Carol Staub, of Somerset, NJ, has received awards from the following exhibitions. Ninth Annual Exhibition of the Experimental Artists of Alabama (H.M.) ; San Diego WCS International Exhibit (Ana Drobnies Award); A.E. Bean Backus Museum (Awarded 4 person Exhibit for May 2005); Garden State WCS 35th Annual (Garden State WCS Award) and accepted into 8th Annual Associate Member’s Show., Louisa Melrose Gallery in Frenchtown, NJ (awarded 2 person exhibit in June and July 2004) and was juried into the New Jersey WCS 62nd Annual Exhibition.
Jean Dobie, PWS, of Berwyn, PA, won the Brodock Award at the Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors and selected for the Traveling exhibition. Jean also won the Captain and Mrs. Rogers Sponsor Award in the San Diego WCS’s International exhibition. She has been involved with exhibitions at the Florida WCS (Aug-Sep); Watercolor West (Oct-Dec); Philadelphia WCS (Oct-Dec) and PWS (Nov-Jan) and is a member of the Summer Issue of the AWS Newsletter.
Bob Jorgensen, of Ashland, MA, received the Winsor-Newton Award for excellence in Watercolor at the Art of New England show and Best of Show at the Cultural Arts Alliance Show in Hopkinton, MA. Bob was accepted into the Audubon Artists and American Artists professional League shows, both at the Salmagundi Club In NYC.
Virginia Blackstock, PWS, of Hotchkiss, CO, had a painting hung in the 11trh Annual National Watercolor Exhibition of Rhode Island. Virginia also has a painting on display at Springville Museum of Art (Utah) in their annual Religious and Spiritual Exhibition. Solo shows are currently exhibited at the Delta Memorial Hospital and Delta County Extension Office.
Jean Uhl Spicer, PWS-sgg, of Havertown PA, was a selection and awards juror for the New Jersey WCS annual exhibition . Jena has a full schedule of workshops which include Misouri, May 23-27; Somerset Art Association, New Jersey June 13-16; Chestertown MD September 20-23, Ocean Co. NJ October 12-14; and Yosemite California, November 6-11.
Brenda Lawson, of Hilltown PA, won the Bucks County Landscape Award at the Phillips Mill 75th Annual Art Show, New Hope, PA last September.
Laurie Humble, of Houston, Texas, was awarded “Best of Show” at the Visual Arts Center of Northwest Florida’s 29th Annual Watercolor Show and Airfloat Award at the Montana WCS National 2004 Exhibition earning signature membership. Laurie was accepted in the following shows this year: The National Society of Artists Juried Show; Bosque Conservatory Art Council Annual National Show; Assistance League of Houston Celebrtates Texas Art; Hilton Head Art League National Juried; Red River WCS 11th Annual; Visual Arts Alliance 21st Juried; the Art splash on the Square National Art Competition; Kansas WCS Great 8 Exhibition; South Cobb Arts Alliance 17 National; Rhode Island WCS 11th Annual Watermedia; and the San Diego WCS 24th International Exhibition. Laurie will be subject of an article by M. Stephen Doherty in the March 2005 American Artist Magazine.
Henry C. Meier, PWS, of Lewes, DE, was awarded the Crest Medal as well as the Isa Barnett prize at the Philadelphia WCS annual exhibition. Henry also did a demonstration for the Studio Group in Wilmington, DE in September. Visit Henry's website by clicking here
Julia Swartz, of Leola, PA, held an open house display of her latest watercolors, oils, and limited edition prints last November at her gallery in Leola.
Hazel Stone, of Phoenix, AZ, has had paintings accepted into the International Society of Experimental Artists, ISEA 2004; Kansas WCS Exhibition; Watercolor USA 2004, Springfield Art Museum; Red River WCS 11th Annual National; Northwest WECS 64th Annual Open; and the Pittsburgh WCS “Aqueous Open 2003” at the Three Rivers Gallery. Hazel has achieved Signature Status in the ISEA and her Fine Artist Biography ha sbeen included in “Who’s Who of American Women, 2004-2005”.
Matilda Grech, PWS, of Port Jervis, NY, won “Best of Show” at the Middletown Art Group Annual Show at Orange County Community College, Middletown, NY. She also had a painting accepted into 108th Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Annual Exhibition at the National Arts Club, NYC.
John Satterthwaite, of Narberth, PA, had an extensive exhibit of his antique auto and truck paintings in the second floor atrium at the Antique Automobile Club of America’s new museum in Hershey, PA. He also had almost 200 additional matted pieces in their gift shop. This was a noteworthy honor for John who is so interested in the history of the automobile in America. The show closed in December, but his works may still be in the gift shop for those who appreciate the value of historic cars and trucks.
Gloria Baker, PWS, of Evansville, IN, has been accepted into the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia 2004, in Golden CO and the Pittsburgh WCS’s 58th Aqueous Open International Exhibit. Gloria will be included in the new “Who’s Who in America 59th Edition 2005”; “Who’s Who of American WOMEN 2004-2005”, and “Who’s Who in the World 2005”.
Robert O’Connor, of Boiling Springs, PA, is one of the top ten finalists in the International Artist’s Magazine’s Challenge, ’People and Figures’. His painting will appear in the December/Jamuary Issue and also appear in their “How Did You Paint That” book series.
Evelyn Ecale Schultz, PWS, of Elmhurst, IL, was awarded First Place at the Elmhurst Art Museum EAG Member’s Exhibit and at the Addison Art Guild Fall Show. Evelyn also won 2nd Place award at the 150th Anniversary Scared Heart Art Exhibit; HM at Bloomingdale Art Museum Impressions of the Season; and the Mayors Award of Excellence at the Elk Grove Fine Arts 2004. Two of her paintings were purchased for the permanent collection of the Fra Angelica Foundation, one was installed in the York theater, Elmhurst, New Addition.
Jacqueline Mitchell Smith, of Wernersville, PA, had three paintings accepted in the 7th Annual International Exhibition SAMAP-France at the Chateau de Bericourt. During Oct And Nov, Jacqueline had three paitings on exhibit in the Hilliard Society Exhibition, Somerset, UK and was notified of her membership signature status using “HS” after her name. She also had paintings exhibited at 2004 Cider Painters of American Show; Miniature Painters, Sculptors, and Gravers Society of Washington, DC International Exhibit, and in January, she will be exhibiting in the Dunedin Fine Art Center with the Miniature Art Society of Florida.
Dottie Burton, PWS, of Las Vegas, NV, has been accepted into the following national and international exhibitions last year: Georgia WCS XXV, National; WCS Houston 27th International (Merit Award); Mississippi Grand National (Merit Award); Louisiana WCS 34th Annual; San Diego WCS International; Kentucky WCS Aqueous 2004 (Daler-Rowney Award and chosen for traveling show) National Watercolor Oklahoma 30th Exhibition (Merchant Award) Montana WCS Watermedia 2004 (Merchant Award); PWS National Exhibit; One Woman Exhibition-Figuring It! Summerlin Library Gallery; and Girl Scouts of America commissioned and purchased 4 paintings for their new building.
Our Ex-Oficio Board Member, Joann Hensel, PWS-sgg, of Millersville, PA, sent us a news clipping from Florida’s Herald Tribune, congratulating Jacqueline Clark, PWS of Bradenton, FL, for her acceptance into the PWS 25th Annual International Exhibition. It’s good to know that our members are receiving recognition in the their home areas.
